Thursdays at Home
I have post at HWW today about homemade taco seasoning and why our family has taco salad at least every other week... :)
It's another Thursday at home and some how the whole morning has gone and I haven't even begun to clean up the house or bake bread or (insert boring chore here). However I DID have brunch with my father and his girlfriend/partner (hmmm Stoney what do I call you?? -live in spiritual advisor??). We haven't talked for a while and it was really good to do that! They were ale to help me with floor plans and lessons learned from their experiences building in the boonies!
We sign (and pay for) our land tomorrow. Four acres for cash and the remaining 15 on a land contract with Mr Nice Farmer. Saturday we are getting together with the builder. The loan officer (construction loan) will be out of town until after Easter, so hopefully we can have drawings submitted to her the first or second week of April so she can begin the process of securing our construction loan. That process will take 3-4 weeks. Even thinking positively it will be middle May before funds are released for us to build. Garage and well first, then list house. Whew.
Thursday mornings we do Dr meetings at work. They always depress me. It should be a collaborative team building session, but increasingly I'm finding myself wanting to not be on this team. The most meaning I am getting from work lately is the paycheck, it's a nice paycheck and interesting work most of the time -but the small animal-pets as children -best medicine model is crushing me. I want to help people by helping their pets not cover my ass all the time.
Acck, time to knead some bread, open the windows and let the spring air blow through the house.

Crockpot Yogurt at HWW
Posted yesterday at HWW about making yogurt in the crockpot. I love it, the kids smile and roll their eyes at me. But it was fun growing stuff in my own kitchen. Oh, my poor OCD germ phobic mother! First the 'home-captures' sourdough starter now this!

Giveaway Time
Hurray...it's free stuff. At Homemakers Who Work we are giving away a prize! Many of our authors have contributed prize items in return for feedback. We would like to know what we can do to improve our site. What can we do to improve the content or the layout to make it a must-read for YOU. Entries close at 5pm on Feb 28th.
My conribution is a homemade wooden sign 'Live Simply' on one side and 'Kindness Matters' on the other.
I feel a little strange about being a part of this group-I am not a foodie, or a super-woman, or even a very good house-keeper (ssshh-don't tell). I learn as much as I contribute there.

Plant Sex
No one guessed what the pictures in the previous post were...plant porn. Electron microscope photos of pollen enhanced with color. Once giftmas (oops christmas) is history-I will break out my old paints and see if they are all dried up or still usable! It's been years.
A helpful radio announcer reminded me that there is only 20 days until gift..christmas, I better order gifts for the girls. They have been circling and cutting out pictures from the catalogs we receive for months! Everyone else is covered, I think.
I have been working out 3-4 days per week. I feel great. The scale is not moving much (5#) but my blue jeans are much looser-as in I can pull them off without unbuttoning. Its something, I'll take it 5# at a time.
The land contract on our 20 acres is going forward. We will buy outright 4 acres plus the 33x800ft driveway, and write a contract with Mr Nice Farmer for the rest. The surveying will happen next week -to the tune of $1,000 ouch! The builder we will use is available for next summer. We will get together with him sometime in january to go over our scribbled plans.
I need to work on a post for tomorrow's Homemakers Who Work. I think I will talk about my personal hero the FlyLady...interested...come visit us there.

The Lowly Potato
I've posted today at Homemakers Who Work (click on the title to go there) about the potato-its role in revolutions, population migrations and an oral tradition seven generations back, in which a minister is nearly poisoned in a picturesque Norwegian mountain village. I'm still fighting through a pretty low spot-lots of anxiety, lots of unknowns, I've been talking to my business partner about selling my portion back to her and it is scarey as hell, but exciting too. I need to make some time to get back into blogging-it is such a catharsis to let it all go-the good, the bad, and the (very) ugly! We also have some pretty cool things happening too! Ahh well, its late...i mean early...Kris

Here I Am
My apologies to anyone who looks forward to reading what I have to say. Life has been a little off-kilter lately, and I have not had the energy or time to blog. I have 2 posts over at Homemakers Who Work; one today and one on July 31st. Enjoy!
I hope to be able to share our plans to escape the suburbs once they are finalized! (it feels very good to be finally moving forward and perhaps that is why I haven't felt the need to blog/rant so much)

A New Adventure!
A few weeks ago I was invited to write on Homemakers Who Work. I was a little taken aback because although I have the working part down cold, the homemaking part is a struggle for me. I am not organized, I do not have it all together, and my house is a mess more often than not. Now that I am working less I hope to improve! See my introduction there today.
