The past two work days have been bad. Everything is sick, everybody loves their pet-but has limited funds-what can you do for me that won't cost alot...hmmm I have two choices really 1) guess (my crystal ball solution) 2) the 2 cent lead flavored cure (my super sensitive spouses solution). I have put three animals to sleep in the past 24 hours. The sobbing owner kind, the 'tell me i am doing the right thing' kind, the home euthanasia with the single mom and her two kids crying as i listen for the last heart beatkind. i am really just out of answers, out of solutions, just dry and shriveled up inside. I really don't think i can do this job much longer without loosing the compassion and empathy which is what makes it all worth while.
bad bad bad.
don't worry too much -i'll be better after i have had a chance to paint and do some yoga.

awww my heart goes out to you, one day closer to your new life, one day closer . . . xoxo
It must be a bad time to be in your vocation. Money is tight for most people, and unfortunatly, so many can't afford the care for their pets that they would like. I sure wouldn't want to be in your position.
Hang in there. Take a deep breath and just do your best. It's all any of us can ever do. I don't think I could do your job. You have my deepest respect for what you do.

Thanks for the comment over at my blog, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Are you a vet or a tech? I'm an LVT. Small world. :)
Oh, after rereading it I see you must be a vet. I do most of the euthanasias where I work but no guesswork or diagnosing for me. I know it can be very frustrating dealing with clients on a "fixed income". I used to be so compassionate and now I mostly don't believe people when they say they're out of money.
We've seen a big increase in people trying to solicit information over the phone. My dog has a hot spot, what can I put on it? I've taken to saying, "I'm sorry ma'am but I really have no idea, Dr. would have to see it" because any quest for further information starts a 20 minute description. Ugg. Anyway, I feel for you.
Thanks for letting me whine, having an outlet is really important as on the outside i am all collected and stoic.
Mrs.Farm -nice to meet you! LVT's have a stressful job too! If you need to vent just look me up!!
